Welsh celebrities have taken to social media to celebrate St David’s Day. Marking the occasion, reporter Huw Edwards, actor Luke Evans, presenter Alex Jones and many more have shared their pride for Wales with special messages, gorgeous photographs and poems.

St David’s Day, which honours the patron saint of the country of course, falls on March 1. The national day has also been celebrated on popular daytime shows with ITV’s This Morning opening the programme with a Welsh choir live from Pembrey Country Park. The beautiful renditions left presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield stunned. Meanwhile, the Prince and Princess of Wales made a surprise visit to Wales yesterday to carry out various engagements to champion mental health initiatives and meet local communities. Sharing an emotive post with his 3.5 million followers, actor Luke Evans, who grew up in the Rhymney Valley, shared a Welsh poem. He wrote: “To be born in Wales, Not with a silver spoon in your mouth, But, with music in your blood, And with poetry in your soul, Is a privilege indeed. from the poem “In Passing” written in 1967 by Brian Harris. Happy #stdavidsday to all my Welsh friends and family around the world.”

Meanwhile, Huw Edwards shared a breathtaking photograph of St David’s Cathedral with his Twitter followers and captioned it: “Gŵyl Ddewi hapus i bawb. A very happy St David’s Day to all.”

Broadcasters Owain Wyn Jones and The One Show’s Alex celebrated the occasion with Wales’ national flower. “Doing the whole show in this giant daffodil head wish me luck,” Owain told his BBC Radio 2 listeners, as Alex shared a beautiful snap of her springtime blooms in a vase and simply wrote: “Happy Saint David’s Day.”

Owain’s friend Carol Vorderman also shared a picture of him wearing the daffodil head along with a striking image of St David’s Cathedral as she wrote: “Happy St David’s Day. Gwyl Ddewi Hapus i bawb.

“You have 3 cêłébrátïōns yma….St David’s Cathedral (Pembrokeshire), a daffodil hat and mein CYNTAFFFFFF dahhhhhhlinggg(my first darling) @OwainWynEvans.”

Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden posed in front of the iconic Caerphilly Castle as she told her followers: “Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus! I love Wales… a country with a warm heart, rich history – full of culture and heritage – and an exciting future.”

And actor Iwan Rheon shared a picture of a daffodil colouring as he simply told his followers: “Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus.” Actor Michael Sheen also wished his followers a Happy St David’s Day as he posted a picture of himself sat in front of the Welsh flag.
