Spence says Canelo should avoid Bivol and Beterbiev

Saúl Álvarez defeated, as expected, John Ryder in his return to the ring after quite a few months of inactivity due to hand surgery.

Canelo won the 59th bout of his career last Saturday after beating the Brito n points in front of more than 45,000 fans at Estadio Akron, in his native Guadalajara.

However, most boxing experts expected Álvarez to make a statement with a knockout win, something that didn’t happen, although the London-bred boxer went to the canvas during the fight.

After his 12-round decision win, Canelo’s main objective is to get to fight Dmitry Bivol in a rematch at 175 lbs, the same category where the Mexican lost via unanimous decision to the Russian boxer one year ago.

However, the WBA light heavyweight champion would only be interested in facing Álvarez again if the contest takes place at 168 lbs, where Canelo holds the four super middleweight belts.

The welterweight king has a message for ‘Canelo’

Right after defeating Ryder, Álvarez was in the spotlight for his performance, as many expected a better fight from the Guadalajara fighter.

Many boxers and experts believe he is past his prime and he looked weak, especially in the latter rounds, against a tough and brave Ryder.

The IBF, WBC, and WBA welterweight champion Errol Spence is no stranger to that fact but also believes Bivol and Beterbiev’s fighting style will cause him lots of problems.

“David Benavidez would be a good-a** fight. He should avoid Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev. Go back to 168 lbs and handle your business. 175 lbs is pushing it”, Spence said to ESNEWS.

The Truth wants Saúl to stay at 168 and defend his undisputed championship against David Benavidez because he feels that’s a better match-up for him.

However, many boxing pundits think that The Mexican Monster, who recently defeated Caleb Plant in great fashion, would also come out on top in a fight against Eddy Reynoso’s pupil, especially taking into consideration Canelo’s last performance.
