Nottingham Forest are plotting a move for defender Jamaal Lascelles as Newcastle United plan a summer revolution, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed that several of the Magpies’ old guard will be earmarked for transfer exits from St James’ Park with potential European qualification on the cards this season.
Lascelles has been at the club since August 2014 but has had limited involvement in Newcastle’s impressive 2022-23 campaign.
His only Premier League start this season came in the 2-1 away loss at Liverpool back in August 2022.
He has made a further seven appearances across all competitions, including three starts in the domestic cups.
The summer-of-2022 signing of Sven Botman has relegated him to a backup role.
Football Insider revealed last week (17 February) that Newcastle want to sign another new centre-back this summer as they look to strengthen the spine of their side.
He joined the club in the Championship and has amassed 156 appearances in the top flight since the Magpies secured promotion in 2015.
The former England Under-21 international came through the ranks at Nottingham Forest and has played 65 times for the club across two spells.
Forest have already raided the Magpies for Jonjo Shelvey and Chris Wood this season.
Lascelles has under 18 months left on his contract at St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe is ready to reshape his squad in the summer window as mega-rich Saudi-backed Newcastle look to go to the next level in the 2023-24 season.
Football Insider revealed on 11 February that Ryan Fraser, Matt Ritchie and Jamal Lewis will also be put up for sale at the end of the season.
Newcastle sit one point adrift of fourth-place Tottenham with a game in hand on their top-four rivals.
Howe’s side can secure qualification for next season’s Europa Conference League by beating Man United in the League Cup final on Sunday (26 February).
