Sources: Major update on Liverpool terminating Thiago Alcantara’s contract

Liverpool have no intention of terminating Thiago Alcantara’s contract to enable him to secure a last-gasp move to Turkey, sources have told Football Insider.
The Spanish midfielder, 32, has been the subject of strong reported interest from Trazbonspor ahead of Friday’s (15 September) transfer cut-off.
It is believed the interest is genuine but Liverpool do not want to lose a player Jurgen Klopp still regards as a key member of his squad.
As for the possibility that Liverpool could pay off Thiago to leave as a free agent – as has been suggested in Turkey – that is not seen as an option by Liverpool.
Thiago has entered the final year of his contract, which expires in the summer of 2024, and has been absent since April with a hip injury.
But he has been named in Liverpool’s Europa League squad and is closing in on a first-team comeback after failing to appear in the new campaign.
Klopp hopes he is available for Liverpool’s next match, a Premier League clash away to Wolves at lunchtime on Saturday.
Klopp’s side then travel to Austria on Thursday of next week to face LASK in the opening round of their Europa League group stage campaign.
The Merseysiders also take on Union Saint-Gilloise and Toulouse the other two sides in their group.
Thiago made 28 appearances for the Reds across all competitions last term, which included 14 Premier League and three Champions League starts.
Since arriving at Liverpool in 2020, Thiago has featured 97 times for the club and has long been widely regarded as one of the outstanding players in his position in the Premier League.
