Leeds United have registered their interest in signing Leicester City left-back Luke Thomas, sources have told Football Insider.

The Whites have been monitoring the 22-year-old’s progress at the King Power Stadium and are ready to firm up their interest before Friday’s (1 September) deadline with a formal offer.

Daniel Farke’s side have been haunted by injury in defensive areas at the start of the 2023-24 campaign.

Sam Byram suffered an adductor injury in the win over Ipswich on Saturday (26 August), while Junior Firpo is also on the treatment table.

Leo Hjelde, Jamie Shackleton and Cody Drameh have all been used at left-back but are not natural options for Farke.

Thomas, 22, is out of contract at Leicester in less than 12 months after penning his last extension in August 2020.

He racked up 56 total appearances for the Foxes during their time in the Premier League and even started in their FA Cup final win over Chelsea in 2021.

However, the England Under-21 international has been dropped by Enzo Maresca despite the club’s relegation to the Championship.

Thomas is yet to play a single minute of second-tier action this season with loanee Callum Doyle preferred in a left-back role.

The Syston-born ace is a product of the Leicester academy and has racked up 85 senior appearances for the club, scoring twice and assisting five.

Leeds

The Foxes and Leeds are expected to challenge for promotion this term.

Leicester have won all four Championship games so far this term, while Leeds have picked up just five of a possible 12 points.
