Vardy #Vardy
Ahead of tonight’s Dancing On Ice final, Sonny Jay has been reflecting on his time on the show, and the friendships he built.
And this includes a special bond with fellow former contestant Rebekah Vardy.
The Capital Breakfast DJ joked that after they became friends he took the opportunity to ask a special favour of Rebekah, wife of footballer Jamie.
He said: “I just had this nice bond with Rebekah Vardy too and when she left the week she did I just said I’m gutted she’s going and she said ‘you’ve got to go on and win this now’ so I said ‘if I win can I get a signed Jamie Vardy top?’”
If he wins tonight, Sonny will be hoping Rebekah comes through on their deal.
Ahead of the final he also reflected on his performances, which include a showcase performance choreographed by Torvill and Dean.

Sonny, who found fame as part of Britain’s Got Talent boy band, Loveable Rogues, said: “They are getting me to be George Formby on ice so I am going to be the first person to ever play the ukulele on Dancing On Ice live.
“It’s also going to be great because it will be the first gig I’ve played in about five years! The routine is very much me. They’ve really picked out a good routine for me… There are comical moments in there and I think it’s so well suited to me so I’m so pleased I’ll get to do it.”
He will also relive his favourite skate and a tricky Bolero.
Sonny said: “For my favourite skate of the series I’ve chosen to be Popeye again. I loved Popeye so much and I had loads of messages about it. It was also the first week we topped the leader board.”
He called the Bolero ‘daunting’.

“There is an added extra nerve to it because this is [Torvill and Dean’s] dance, this is the reason why we’re all here, this show exists because of it.”
And while Sonny said the commitment and training had been a struggle at times, he admitted he would miss it.
He said: “I expected it to be hard work and it’s been hard work and more.
“It’s been a struggle some weeks more than others, doing it with the breakfast show. The last two weeks especially, just that extra pressure of learning another routine and this week it’s two extra routines.
“It’s been amazing. I’m going to miss it, I really am. I know I’m going to be sitting at home next weekend going ‘oh, I was on Dancing On Ice y’know?!’”
