Sol Campbell is a candidate to take over from Mark Warburton as manager of Queens Park Rangers, according to reports.

TalkSPORT report the former Arsenal, Tottenham and England defender is being considered as a managerial candidate at Loftus Road, with Warburton leaving as his contract comes to an end.

Campbell’s two stints in management so far have been at Macclesfield Town and Southend United.

The former centre-back did pretty well in a really difficult situation at Macclesfield, but his spell at Southend was one to forget, leaving the club after four wins from 23 games in charge.

He left Southend in June 2020 and has not worked since, so it would be a significant step up in competition to the Championship after nearly two years away from management, if he were to be given the QPR job.

Rangers finished a respectable 11th in the Championship, but decided they wanted a ‘fresh start next season’ and chose not to offer Warburton a new deal.

Chief executive Lee Hoos told the club website: ‘In his three years, he has helped the club establish a style of play and a DNA for which we are hugely grateful.

‘We wish Mark every success in the future. I would personally like to thank him for his incredible work ethic, professionalism and dedication during his time with us.’

Campbell is not the bookmakers’ favourite to take the job at Loftus Road, at the time of writing, with MK Dons boss Liam Manning the shortest price in the betting.
