Soccer Saturday legend Chris Kamara is leaving Sky Sports at the end of the season after 24 years.
Kamara, better known as ‘Kammy’, also featured on Soccer AM and Goals on Sunday but is best known for his work on Soccer Saturday, with viewers regularly treated to his famous catchphrase “Unbelievable, Jeff!”
The former midfielder, who played for a number of clubs including Portsmouth, Brentford and Leeds during his playing career, has confirmed he will leave his role with Sky at the end of the campaign.
Kamara said: “My long career at Sky Sports has never felt like work. I’ve spent 24 terrific years at Sky, and leave with the best of memories.
“My time on Soccer AM, Goals on Sunday and, of course, on Soccer Saturday with Jeff has been – to coin a phrase – unbelievable.
“I’ve had the time of my life, and look forward to tuning in every Saturday as a fan.”
A Sky Sports statement added: “After 24 brilliant years at Sky Sports, including many years as a star of Soccer Saturday, Chris Kamara is leaving the show at the end of the season.
“The Soccer Saturday show paid tribute to him this afternoon, and he leaves with our thanks and very best wishes.”
Kamara, 64, revealed in March that “live TV might have to take a back seat” after he was diagnosed with apraxia of speech.
Tributes have poured in for Kamara from Soccer Saturday viewers following the announcement of his departure.
“Thank you @chris_kammy. You’ve kept the fun in football for the last 24 years, it was a privilege watching you with @Official_STFC in your playing days too,” wrote one fan on Twitter.
“Now time to focus on you, your family & your health. Thank you so much for the wonderful memories.”
Another added: “This is actually rather heartbreaking. What an absolute legend of the sport, in all senses.
“Hopefully Kammy can make a return one day!”
