Soccer odds: Lines on Christian Pulisic’s next club

Pulisic #Pulisic

With the close of the summer transfer window less than 24 hours away and November’s World Cup just around the corner, the window is shutting on Chelsea F.C. and United States Men’s National Team star Christian Pulisic to figure out his club situation.

Chelsea want to keep Pulisic in London, where he’s played since his North American record $73 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2019, but the 23-year-old winger would prefer a move away from the club for more playing time, as Paul Tenorio of The Athletic reported on Monday.

If Pulisic isn’t transferred or loaned out before the close of the transfer window on Sept. 1, then he won’t have an opportunity to leave until the January transfer window, which is after the World Cup and midway through the European soccer season. Pulisic may get more playing time when Champions League starts next week, but it’s unlikely he’ll get the first XI minutes he’s looking for even then.

So, where will Pulisic end up if Chelsea finds a deal that makes enough sense for the club’s ownership — led by American Todd Boehly — to soften their stance on a loan or transfer? We reached out to FOX Bet for hypothetical odds and their thoughts on the matter.

Chelsea selling Pulisic to a rival team like United always seemed unlikely, but it’s especially hard to see now that the Red Devils and Ajax have agreed to a massive transfer fee for Brazilian winger Antony Matheus dos Santos.

However, a few teams make sense for Pulisic, according to FOX Bet sports trader Shaun Caffery.

“Current market favorites Newcastle have money to spend following their big-money takeover last season,” Caffery said. “The magpies are about to complete a deal for Sociedad striker Alexander Isak, and Pulisic could be the perfect wide attacker to supply the Swedish striker along with Allan Saint-Maximin from the opposite flank.

“Juventus could also be an interesting option for Pulisic should he wish to leave England, with Juve looking for additional firepower in their three-man attack. If a move to Juventus materializes, he would link up with USMNT teammate Weston McKennie.”

A move to MLS is the least likely scenario of the bunch at +10000, but he wouldn’t be the first disgruntled young star to leave for the Big Six for MLS — LA Galaxy star Riqui Puig left Barcelona this month for first-team minutes in the United States.
