Snoop Dogg is remembering his late friend Nipsey Hussle a day before what would have been the rapper’s 35th birthday.

The rapper released a soulful track titled “Nipsey Blue” Friday, where he diverts from his rapping style to sing over Dorothy Moore’s 1976 version of “Misty Blue.”

In “Nipsey Blue,” Snoop Dogg sings alongside Moore and replaces the original lyrics like “Oh baby” and “Oh honey” with “Homie” and changes “Misty Blue” to “Nipsey Blue.”

The 48-year-old rapper turns “Misty Blue” into a commemorative song for his late friend, mourning the “things we used to do” and not being able to forget Hussle.

Hussle, real name Ermias Asghedom, died March 2019 at 33 after he was fatally shot outside of his Marathon clothing store in Los Angeles.

This isn’t the first time Snoop Dogg honored Hussle through music. The late rapper inspired Snoop’s song “One Blood, One Cuzz” off his 2019 album “I Wanna Thank Me.”

“After Nipsey Hussle passed away, a lot of gang members that hadn’t talked in 30, 40 years came together. They really loved each other as friends, but through all the madness and ignorant (expletive) they could never get any conversation going,” he told Billboard in an interview published August 2019. “I wanted to have a record that can unify people based off of a tragic event that can lead to some positivity and peace. We all need to be together now: Bloods, Crips, black people in general. “

Though Hussle, a native of Crenshaw, identified as part of the Rollin 60s Neighborhood Crips as a teen, he had been actively trying to broker peace and bridge the gap between rival gangs for years. He would often unite in his Crip blue with Blood gang rappers YG and The Game, known by the color red.

The day after he was shot, Hussle was set to meet with the president of the Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners and the city’s chief of police to discuss gang violence and “to talk about ways he could help stop gang violence and help us help kids.
