An early Super Smash Bros. Ultimate stream with series director Masahiro Sakurai often means a character release is happening the same day, and that’s the case with Pyra and Mythra.
Following Thursday morning’s special demo stream, Sakurai revealed that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players will be able to download the duo from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 later today.
However, what does “later today” mean? From past character announcements, we have the release time of DLC characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate down to a science, so read on for when you can start fighting with Pyra and Mythra.
WHEN WILL PYRA/MYTHRA BE AVAILABLE IN SUPER SMASH BROS ULTIMATE?
Pyra and Mythra will arrive in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Thursday, March 4. Past character releases put the timing in the late evenings on the East Coast of the United States.
Min Min from ARMS! released around 9 p.m. EDT on her release date. Byleth, the protagonist from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, also arrived in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate around 9 p.m. EDT.
It was the same case for Banjo-Kazooie (8 p.m. EDT), and the Hero and Joker, with their updates being released around 9 p.m. EDT.
The only outlier was Terry Bogard, who was released shortly after his reveal demo at around 9 a.m. on November 6, 2019.
With that in mind, Pyra and Mythra will likely be released between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. EDT on Thursday. To add to that, the official Japanese Smash Bros. Twitter account revealed that players in Japan will be able to download the characters on Friday, March 5.
If Pyra/Mythra release at 9 p.m. EDT Thursday, that puts the time in Japan around 11 a.m. on Friday.
HOW TO DOWNLOAD PYRA/MYTHRA IN SUPER SMASH BROS. ULTIMATE
Players who wish to purchase Pyra and Mythra can do so separately or as part of the Fighters Pass 2 bundle. Go to the Nintendo eShop and search “fighters pass.” There, you can sort the results by Downloadable Content, which will put the latest DLC at the top of the list.
Gamers don’t normally have to look hard for new releases, as Nintendo does a good job of posting them on the front page of the eShop.
Alone, Pyra and Mythra cost $5.99, and purchasing the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass 2 will cost players $29.99. The Fighters Pass 2 includes Min Min, Minecraft Steve, Sephiroth, Pyra/Mythra and two more unannounced fighters.
Pyra and Mythra’s release will also come with a new stage and music from the Xenoblade Chronicles series.
New Mii Fighter costumes were also announced during Thursday’s stream and will release at the same time as Pyra/Mythra. Costumes based on Monster Hunter and Ghosts n’ Goblins will make their way to Smash Ultimate.
They are being sold for 75 cents each.
