SM Entertainment finally took action against malicious rumors hurled against their artist, EXO’s Chanyeol last October.
According to the label, they have filed chares against individuals who spread false rumors about Chanyeol, as well as other artists of SM Entertainment.
“We sued those who spread false rumors about Chanyeol, and as far as we know, the police have identified those who were accused and forwarded them to the prosecution with a recommendation for indictment. This is just one of the cases of infringement on our artists’ rights, which the agency is consistently taking legal action for. We are taking legal action against the spread of false rumors, insult, and more regarding our artists, including Chanyeol,” the label said in a statement.
It can be recalled that last October, Chanyeol was accused of being a serial cheater by an anonymous netizen who claimed to be his ex-girlfriend. The woman claimed that during the time they were together, the EXO member was unfaithful to her and treated her poorly. As part of her evidence, she posted several images of Chanyeol with a woman whose face was blurred out, leading to a slew of negative feedback against the Kpop idol.
While some fans pointed out the possibility that the images were altered to fit the poster’s narrative, SM Entertainment has issued only a vague response to the issue.
“We do not have any official stance towards the post in question,” they said.
Chanyeol remained active under the scandal and appeared in the film “The Box” before enlisting as an active-duty soldier last March.
