Fanning scooped the Jockey Cup at Beverley

Joe Fanning continued his purple patch by riding a double at Beverley – securing him the Sky Bet Sunday Series Jockey Cup and a prize of £10,000.

Evergreen Fanning snatched the spoils by guiding 14/1 chance Dubai Leader in the final race of the day, the Sky Bet Sunday Series Middle Distance Handicap, having earlier struck on Another Baar (100/30) for Adrian Keatley in the Sky Bet Sunday Series 3yo Sprint Handicap.

It means Fanning has ridden 14 winners in the past fortnight and leaves him joint second in the Jockeys’ Championship with William Buick on 23 wins. Oisin Murphy leads with 30.

The most striking winner on the card was probably Reach, who defied a 5lb penalty for a runaway win last week in terrific style in the Sky Bet Sunday Series Fillies’ Handicap.

The five-year-old mare, trained by Mick and David Easterby, showed a bright turn of foot to win by two lengths.

The next Sky Bet Sunday Series fixture is Pontefract in a fortnight, followed by Haydock Park (August 6) and then Sandown Park (August 20).
