Size matters for CPC ballots, envelopes

Some ballots were cut if they were placed too close to the top inside the envelope.

Cut ballots were then required to be repaired and entered into the counting machine or filled out by hand on a new ballot and fed into the machine again.

Other ballots were not filled out properly and needed to be reviewed.

Officials indicated that roughly 4,000 ballots were damaged and needed to be dealt with by hand. This entire process was overseen by scrutineers from each of the campaigns.

The party began counting ballots at 3 a.m. ET on Sunday and expected to release their first ballot results by 6pm.

The delay caused by the wayward ballots meant results were put off for several hours.

Asked why counting didn’t begin earlier, such as during the day on Saturday, an official said that those present for counting were not allowed to leave once they were admitted into the area that the ballots were counted in.

The plan was to ensure votes were counted and processed in enough time meet the deadline which obviously did not happen.
