While the Philadelphia 76ers are focused on retaining James Harden on a team-friendly deal, their division rivals are looking to beef up their rosters to contend for the Eastern Conference title.
The Boston Celtics, who ousted the Sixers in the second round of the playoffs, are close to acquiring 7-foot-3 big man Kristaps Porzingis from the Washington Wizards. It is a three-team deal that also includes the Los Angeles Clippers.
Porzingis would opt-in to his deal with the Wizards, then be sent to the Celtics while Boston sends Malcolm Brogdon to the Clippers. The Clips would send Marcus Morris, Amir Coffey and the 30th pick in Thursday’s draft to the Wizards.
Porzingis averaged 23.2 points and 8.4 rebounds while shooting 38.5% from deep for the Wizards in the 2022-23 season. Once this trade is complete, the Celtics become an even tougher team and the Sixers will have to overcome the size and skill that they possess.
