The Philadelphia 76ers were in a tough situation heading into Game 5 back at home on Wednesday. They were coming off a tough loss in Game 4 on the road and they were looking to close out the Washington Wizards at home and advance to Round 2 of the playoffs.
As the Sixers were getting ready to close it out, they received tough news that superstar big man Joel Embiid will miss the game with a small lateral meniscus tear in his right knee. The team needed other players to step up and make plays and that is exactly what happened on Wednesday.
Seth Curry stepped up and poured in a playoff career-high 30 points and the Sixers were able to finish off the Wizards 129-112 at home. The 30 points were something that star teammate Ben Simmons demanded out of the sharpshooter heading into the game while they were playing video games.
“Typically, we play Warzone, if we’re playing at home,” said Simmons after the game. “We’ll play in the morning, after shootaround. I told him, I need 30 out of you and we’re gonna get this dub.”
Simmons pretty much put it bluntly with the team’s shooter: go out there and get 30 points and I’ll go get the triple-double which is exactly what happened.
“It’s a pretty popular game right now,” Curry laughed. “It’s called Warzone. Call of Duty: Warzone, we were playing before our pregame nap earlier today. He’s telling me I need 30 from you and I’m gonna get a triple-double so we can close it out and we were able to go out and get it done.”
The Sixers will now advance to take on the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern semifinals and they will now have to prepare for another challenge in the form of Trae Young.
