Sir Keir Starmer under fire over Labour’s U-turn on £28bn green pledge

Sir Keir Starmer has defended Labour’s U-turn on its pledge to spend £28bn a year on green projects, saying he had no choice given the “very broken economy”.
The Party has faced criticism from environmental groups, unions and energy industry figures after announcing the figure would be slashed to £23.7bn if his party wins the next election.
Sir Keir insisted that the goals of the green investment policy are still intact – with a mission to achieve clean power by 2030 – but plans to insulate homes could be a victim of the cuts.
