Nathan Jones would be a “curious appointment” for Southampton as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s successor, according to former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan.
The Luton Town boss has been installed as the early favourite to be the next Southampton manager, with Saints looking for a new man to take charge after taking the decision to sack Hasenhuttl this morning (Monday) after a 4-1 defeat at home against Newcastle United.
It is understood that Jones is among several managerial options being considered by Southampton and Luton Town have confirmed that they have granted permission for Saints to speak with the Welshman about the managerial vacancy.

But Jordan has had his say on the possibility that Jones could leave Luton for Southampton, with the former Palace chairman suggesting that the 49-year-old would be likely to make the move should Saints offer him the job, unlike Queens Park Rangers manager Michael Beale, who turned down a move to Wolves last month.
“I think it is a curious appointment. He has been doing well for Luton, but it is different trying to stay in the Premier League at Southampton,” he said, speaking on Talksport.
“I would suspect this is different to Michael Beale turning down Wolves having been granted permission. But he still has to be very strong in the interview.”
