Seth had ankle surgery in February. Mom flew in from Texas for the operation and stayed with him for weeks. His season was thought to be over.
“Every time I talk to him,” she said, “I ask: ‘How are you doing?’ and he says: ‘Mom, I’m 100%. I’m doing fine.’
“I know so many athletes go through it, but when it’s you and it’s your kids, you want to be there for them. He’s healthy now and ready to go. In a way, having surgery when he did was a blessing in disguise for him.
“Now they’re ready to play and he’s ready to play. And I can’t wait to watch.”
Caleb tested positive for COVID-19 during the break and surprised his father by going public about his situation.
We apologize, but this video has failed to load.
“When he first told me about the test, you get that pit in your stomach feeling, that sick feeling, and then you start asking: ‘Are you OK? Are you OK?’ Then it’s a text every day, ‘How you feeling, how you doing?’ I know he’s a young adult but he’s still your son. He didn’t have any symptoms and he got through it. And now he’s hoping there’s an opportunity for him to help the Oilers win.”
Caleb was living with his mom in Texas when he tested positive.
“We had been together for the whole break, with him and his girlfriend,” said Amy. “We had spent so much time together, with them, with my mom, and we were kissing and hugging and when he tested positive, I thought this had to be a false positive.
“I was worried about my mother. She’s 70. But none of us tested positive. Nobody got sick. He did his quarantining and now he’s all ready to play.”
