‘Shut your mouth’: Maxine Waters scolds Jim Jordan for yelling match with Anthony Fauci

California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters told Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan to “shut your mouth” during a committee meeting on Thursday.

The scolding came after several minutes of Jordan going back and forth with Dr. Anthony Fauci over lockdowns and their affect on liberties during a House Coronavirus Crisis Subcommittee meeting on Thursday.

Subcommittee Chairman and House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn of South Carolina told Jordan that his time was expired and the next member attempted to begin questioning Fauci. But Jordan continued talking despite the sound of the chairman’s gavel.

“You need to respect the chair and shut your mouth!” Waters interjected.

Clyburn did not seem to appreciate Waters’s help.

“Don’t worry about this,” he said. “We’re going to handle this, and I think Mr. Jordan knows me very well. And he knows full well that we’re going to handle this.”

Jordan had pressed Fauci about the standard he is using to make recommendations about lockdowns.

“Are we just going to continue this forever? … What measure, what standard, what objective outcome do we have to reach before, before Americans get their liberty and freedoms back?” Jordan asked Fauci.

“You’re indicating liberty and freedom. I look at it as a public health measure to prevent people from dying and going to hospital,” said Fauci, who is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and has become the face of federal government health policy during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Well, that’s obvious,” Jordan shot back.

“Dr. Fauci, over the last year, Americans’ First Amendment rights have been completely attacked. Your right to go to church, your right to assemble, your right to petition your government, freedom of the press, freedom of speech, have all been assaulted,” Jordan added.
