Shoppers pack Mayfaire Town Center on Boxing Day to return or buy gifts

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The day after Christmas is also known a Boxing Day. It became famous in Europe but in America, it’s taken on an alternate meaning. Many people go to town in order to return or exchange gifts or take advantage of some sales.

At Mayfaire Town Center in Wilmington, it was certainly a busy day for customers like Jeff Clemente, who was looking to cash in with his gift that some might not enjoy.

“Some people are against those kinds of things for gifts, but I’m not. I love gift cards, it gives us flexibility to get the things that we need when we need them. So, me and my daughter are out here trying to spend our gift cards in the best way possible,” Clemente said.

But he wasn’t the only one looking to cash in, so were LaTonya and Amari Brigman, mother and daughter who were out shopping at Mayfaire as well. Lets just say Amari had some advice for those who are doing some shopping with their families.

“Kids if you’re home from school, college anything you know. Love on your families, spend their money so you don’t have to spend it. Get your groceries paid for you know, doing some shopping at their house,” Brigman laughed.

For her mother LaTonya, it was more about spending quality time together shopping.

“We’re just out and about having mother, daughter time, capitalizing on the sales. So yeah, that’s what it’s all about,” Brigman added.
