Shocking moment student yells ‘Allahu Akbar’ as Palestine debate spirals out of control

Allahu Akbar #AllahuAkbar

A debate about Palestine at University College Dublin spiralled out of control as a member of the audience started shaking his fist and shouting “Allahu Akbar”.

The remarkable scenes came at the end of the event, where attendees had discussed whether the West was doing enough to support the Palestinian people.

People were recorded shouting angrily at each other, with videos appearing to show others being escorted out of the Fitzgerald Chamber where the debate had been held.

A man is also heard repeatedly shouting Allahu Akbar prompting many attendees to leave and security to intervene.

The motion for the debate was “This House believes that the West has failed Palestine” and included barrister Natasha Hausdorff, who has rapidly risen to prominence as a leading pro-Israel voice, and Irish politician Richard Boyd Barrett.

Tempers appeared to flare when Mr Boyd Barrett, a self-described socialist, was videoed earlier in the debate refusing to condemn Hamas.

An audience member was seen heckling the People Before Profit TD, calling on him to denounce the terrorist organistion that killed 1,400 and took 250 Jews hostage on October 7.

His refusal sparked fierce verbal exchanges between audience members, appearing to be on different sides of the issue.

Mr Boyd Barrett later told The Journal that the debate was “a bit chaotic” and added that it finished in “verbal argy-bargy”.

He said: “There was a delay for about an hour before the meeting because the speakers who were advocating for Israel weren’t willing to debate with someone on the other side.”

It is understood that the debate was supposed to be three versus three, however after Ms Hausdorff refused to debate Ibrahim Halawa it was agreed that the debate would be one versus one – Ms Hausdorff against Mr Boyd Barrett.
