Sheldon Keefe firing coming today?

According to multiple unverified reports, the Toronto Maple Leafs are on the verge of making a coaching change.

Multiple rumor blogs in the Leafs social media landscape are reporting that head coach Sheldon Keefe could be on his way out of Toronto this week. It was reported that the team’s ownership, President Brendan Shanahan and GM Brad Treliving all met yesterday to discuss a potential change behind the bench.

From rumor blog Hockey 24/7:

There have been further rumors that the Leafs are interested in former St. Louis Blues coach Craig Berube who was dismissed last month.

Read below for our earlier report on this developing story.

The Toronto Maple Leafs made the decision to fire former Stanley Cup-winning head coach Mike Babcock in November of 2019 following a sluggish start to the season; they replaced him with Sheldon Keefe, who had been serving as head coach of their American Hockey League affiliate Toronto Marlies.

Since then, Keefe has gone on to become the longest tenured NHL head coach in Canada, and has routinely enjoyed regular season success. The stars finally aligned last spring, as he and the Leafs finally won a postseason series for the first time since the invention of YouTube before eventually succumbing to the future Eastern Conference champion Florida Panthers.

Once again, the Leafs find themselves in the midst of an up and down regular season. They’ve lost two straight games in as many days on their home ice, and the whispers are growing louder that Keefe’s job security could be in doubt.

An unverified report came through on Monday following yesterday’s 4-2 loss at Scotiabank to the Detroit Red Wings in which the Leafs held one-goal leads twice:

“BREAKING NEWS: Leafs ownership, president, and GM are having a meeting this morning/early afternoon. Looks like a coaching change is coming. Stay tuned.”

Whether or not this alleged meeting is to discuss the future of Sheldon Keefe as Leafs head coach or something else remains to be seen and/or confirmed.

Regardless, do Leafs fans think that the time has come to make yet another coaching change in order for this franchise to enjoy sustained postseason success rather than in the regular season?
