As I looked at the announcement of a Sex in the City series, I couldn’t help but wonder: Is this the thing that finally makes me watch it?

Iconic sitcom Sex in the City is being revived in a new series of 10 half-hour episodes on HBO Max, as confirmed by Variety. It will be the first time audiences catch up with the characters since Sex and the City 2 in 2010 (barring short-lived prequel The Carrie Diaries.)

Called And Just Like That…, the revival will follow the Sex Crew (Screw?) as they continue to deal with the love lives and friendships in their 50s. Original cast members Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis will reprise their roles as Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York respectively, and will also executive produce alongside Michael Patrick King.

Unfortunately Kim Cattrall will not be returning as Samantha Jones (who I thought was played by Sarah Jessica Parker up until like 10 minutes ago). This is disappointing as her character was fairly well-liked, but understandable considering her apparent falling out with SJP.

Look, I’ll be real with you. I haven’t seen Sex in the City. I was too young during its heyday, and wasn’t allowed to watch it because it was inappropriate.

Here’s what I think it’s about, though: Sarah Jessica Parker and three other white women try to juggle their sex lives and careers in the city. I figure it’s probably New York, because that’s where pretty much everything happens in ’90s American sitcoms. They have various recurring boyfriends and also personalities different enough that calling someone a Miranda is an insult.

There’s a wealthy business guy named Mr. Big who dates SJP. She also calls him Mr. Big instead of by his first name or even a pet name, which seems weird. Maybe it’s a fetish thing, but that’s pretty on edge for the ’90s and also they should probably keep that in the bedroom.

I don’t think SJP is explicitly a sugar baby, but Mr. Big is loaded and she’s a columnist who writes like one column a week but can still afford a New York apartment, so it’s pretty well implied. All of her articles are basically diary entries too. I can’t help but wonder who would pay her for that.

And Just Like That… will begin production in late spring, though there’s no word yet on when it will land on HBO Max.
