Sewing needles found inside two candy bars given out during Halloween trick-or-treating in Sandwich is under investigation by the Sandwich police.

The mother of an 8-year-old reported first finding a sewing needle in a small Snickers bar and then when she checked her other children’s candy, a sewing needle was also found in a Twix candy bar, according to a Facebook post on Thursday by the Sandwich Police Department.

On Wednesday evening, Sandwich police officers were called to the Sandwich residence to inspect the candy. The mother told police that her son was checking his candy when he noticed something poking out of it. The wrapper also had a puncture hole and the sewing needle was inside the bar, the mother told the police.

The family went trick or treating in the Main Street area of Sandwich but police did not share specific street location with the Times.

The police department recommends everyone inspect all trick-or-treat candy collected from the downtown area of Sandwich.

The police department has not received any other similar complaints, and residents are encouraged to contact Sandwich police if they suspect or find any candy that has been tampered with.

On Thursday, Sandwich police said there was no further information to share about the incident.
