A mother of two has claimed on social media a character at Sesame Place theme park snubbed her kids during a parade.

The video caused anger on the internet with former Destiny’s Child member and singer Kelly Rowland joining in the backlash with a reaction video.

However, the children’s theme and water park in Sesame Road, Langhorne, Pennsylvania, has come forward with an apology and explanation via a post on Instagram.

At the weekend, a mother of two uploaded footage of her two kids at a Sesame Place parade, claiming they had been snubbed by a worker dressed as Rosita, a character from Sesame Street.

The mother and Instagram user – @__jodiii__ – claimed the character approached the kids at the parade as they stretched their arms to greet Rosita.

The character appears to greet a few other kids and an adult in the crowd before appearing to respond with a ‘no’ gesture to the two young girls.

One of the girls turns her back to the camera with a disappointed expression on her face.

In the post, Jodi claims the person dressed as Rosita “blatantly told our kids NO, then proceeded to hug the little white girl next to us”.

Sesame Place responds

Sesame Place issued a statement on Instagram after the video sparked anger on social media.

The statement read: “The performer portraying the Rosita character has confirmed the ‘no’ hand gesture seen several times in the video was not directed to any specific person, rather it was a response to multiple requests from someone in the crowd who asked Rosita to hold their child for a photo, which is not permitted.

“The Rosita performer did not intentionally ignore the girls and is devastated about the misunderstanding.”

The theme park said it had extended apologies to the girls’ family and invited them to a special meet-and-greet event with their characters.

“We apologize to these guests for not delivering the experience they expected and we commit our best to earn their and all guests’ visit and support,” the statement concluded.
