There has been a major update on a player wanted by Arsenal and Newcastle, with a report revealing his ‘secret medical’ in London ahead of a Premier League switch.
Arsenal and Newcastle are both on course to qualify for next season’s Champions League. Arsenal sit second in the table, one point behind leaders Manchester City after playing an extra game. The Gunners remain in the race for the title, although City are in the driving seat ahead of this weekend’s fixtures.
Newcastle, meanwhile, occupy third spot. They have a two-point advantage on fourth-placed Manchester United after playing the same amount of matches as Erik ten Hag’s side.
Possessing Champions League football will help Arsenal convince top players to move to the Emirates this summer as Mikel Arteta eyes another assault on the title next term. It will also help Newcastle as they aim to take their exciting project to the next stage, which could result in a title challenge as well.
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud is one player who will be enticed by the prospect of signing for either Arsenal or Newcastle.
Dahoud will become a free agent at the end of the season after Dortmund decided against renewing his contract. He is currently evaluating his options and could end up playing in England for the first time.

In March, Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg revealed Arsenal had made an ‘enquiry’ to Dahoud’s agent after finding out the 27-year-old was heading towards free agency. Leicester, AC Milan and Napoli were some of the other teams named as being interested in him.
German outlet Sport1 have now provided an update on Dahoud’s situation. They reveal he has been spotted on a ‘secret’ trip to London, where he has had a medical.
It is claimed Dahoud is ‘about to move’ to a Prem club. He is wanted by sides in Germany, Italy and Spain but is ready to reject all of them so he can try himself out in English football.
Sport1 reinforce Plettenberg’s information about Leicester being in the mix for the two-cap Germany international. They state that Newcastle and Brighton are also trying to persuade him on a move, though there is no mention of Arsenal. It will be interesting to see if Arteta greenlights an Arsenal move for Dahoud following Plettenberg’s previous claim.
Despite revealing that Dahoud has undergone a medical, the report does not name which club is about to win the race for him.
What is known is that Brighton cannot be ruled out, despite the huge pull power of Arsenal and Newcastle. Seagulls coach Roberto De Zerbi has long been an admirer of Dahoud, having tried to sign him for Sassuolo in the past.
Plus, Brighton will need one or two midfielders to join them this summer if Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo depart the Amex. The highly rated duo are being courted by some of the biggest teams in England.
Dahoud’s future is still yet to be decided, though it seems he will end up in the Prem next. His signing will be a clever move for whichever club wins the race.
As Dahoud is available on a free, it is a transfer which brings with it little risk. The player will also not be weighed down by a big price tag, as has happened to the likes of Mykhailo Mudryk and Darwin Nunez.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are being tipped to stun Manchester City by signing a superstar and making it a hat-trick of raids on Pep Guardiola’s team.
