Incoming Everton boss Sean Dyche has been told to sign West Ham star Michail Antonio as a potential Anthony Gordon replacement.

The former Burnley coach is close to agreeing to become the new manager at Goodison Park, replacing Frank Lampard who was sacked earlier this week.

The Toffees are in a sticky position and find themselves battling relegation in the Premier League, but Dyche has fine experience staving off the drop when he was Burnley boss, doing so for five years with a shoestring budget.

But the first problem the 51-year-old must deal with is repairing the squad disharmony, particularly over Gordon who missed three days of training as Newcastle push to sign the winger before the January transfer window shuts.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s White and Jordan show, Arsenal legend Martin Keown suggested the two meet face to face before a decision is made over Gordon’s future.

But he has urged Everton to make a move for Antonio at West Ham if the youngster departs, with only four days remaining of the transfer window to bolster the squad.

He said: “I think Sean Dyche sitting down with the players, we talked about this before, meeting the players, finding out what is going on, ‘What character have I got in front of me? Is it bad? Can we repair the damage? Okay, no’.

“Right, Antonio might be available at West Ham. There are options, let’s get him.

“I don’t know how Dyche works, he is not that prolific in the transfer market. Having said that, this is a different club, this is Everton now.

“So maybe it is, maybe his first step is to spend some of that money and get the player out.

“So a lot of thinking to do for the manager and immediately you have got to get to work quickly.

“One assumes that he had one eye on the job and the team for the last number of weeks.”

Gordon has since returned to training with Dyche expected to arrive imminently as the new manager, while Antonio has admitted he could leave West Ham this month.

“Honestly, I’ve not ruled anything out, that’s all I can say,” the striker said on The Footballer’s Football Podcast.

Antonio could be heading out the door, with Everton linked

“Nothing has been ruled out. There are talks, so whatever happens, happens.

“I’ve been here for eight-and-a-half years now, become top goalscorer for the club and I’ve loved every moment of it,” said Antonio.

The 32-year-old has 18 months left on his contract at the London Stadium and has been linked with a shock loan to Chelsea, as well as fellow strugglers Wolves, but admitted leaving West Ham would be tough.

He added: “Every single moment is somewhere close to my heart and I’ll always be looking out for it. I love the fans, I’ve loved my time at West Ham.

“It’s just one of those things. I’m not saying goodbye, I’m saying basically, if it happens, it happens and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t.

“I won’t be upset about staying and I’ll definitely be upset if I leave because obviously I’ve enjoyed my time here, but football is football.

“Players move, players stay and eight-and-a-half years at one club, I would never have thought of it because before I came to West Ham the most I stayed at a club was two years.

“I’ve still got a year and a half here. I can’t say I’m going because I’ve still got a year and a half left at the club.”
