Memphis Grizzlies guard Scotty Pippen Jr. was able to satisfy a childhood dream Saturday.

Pippen played five minutes in the game and scored three points in a 125-96 loss to the Chicago Bulls at the United Center. Despite the loss and limited playoff time, Pippen’s scoring play served as a throwback to when his father, NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, was carving out his career with the Bulls.

His father’s jersey hangs from the rafters of the arena and Pippen Jr. took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to express his happiness about the moment.

It was his first game the season since signing a two-year, two-way deal with the Grizzlies last week.

Pippen Jr. had averaged 18.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 2.8 steals in five games with the South Bay Lakers of the NBA G-League in 2023-24 and notably played six games with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2022-23 season.

He averaged 2.3 points in 5.3 minutes across those games and will have a chance to contend for a bigger role for a Grizzlies team that has been depleted by injuries. Ja Morant is our for the season with a shoulder injury and Marcus Smart and Desmond Bane are also dealing with injuries that will sideline them for at least another month.

The Grizzlies are currently 15-27 and sit in 13th in the Western Conference. While the playoffs look unlikely, Pippen Jr. will likely get more opportunities to prove his worth at the NBA level.
