PHOENIX — Chris Paul was issue double technical fouls and ejected late in the first half of Wednesday’s game against the Phoenix Suns. Crew chief Scott Foster threw Paul out of the game with 23 seconds left in the first half.
Paul, in his first time back in Phoenix since the Suns traded him in the offseason, was thrown out for talking back to Foster over a called foul on Kevin Durant.
Paul and longtime referee Foster have a history. Paul’s teams are 3-17 in the playoffs in games Foster has refereed and it’s been reported that Paul has met with the NBA regarding his issues with Foster.
After a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in his 2021 playoff run with the Suns, Paul made a comment that he’d los “11 (playoff games) in a row” with Foster officiating.
Coach Steve Kerr was also issued a technical foul during the aftermath.
Paul had six points and six assists at the time of his ejection and the Suns took a 16-point lead heading into halftime. That’s tied for their largest deficit of the season with their loss on Nov. 11 to the Cleveland Cavaliers. They were down by 15 against the Suns in the season opener loss.
Through the start of the season, Paul joins Klay Thompson and Draymond Green on the list of Warriors who have been thrown out of games.
