Frank McAvennie has told Michael Beale to “get players out” of Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker insisted Beale will have to offload first-team squad men before making January signings.
As quoted by the Herald (27 December), the Ibrox boss revealed that his side are in the market for a new midfielder in the winter window.
Steven Davis has already been ruled out until the end of the season after suffering a knee injury which Beale described as a “huge blow” for his side.
There has also been speculation surrounding Glen Kamara’s future although he is contracted at Ibrox until 2025.
Beale is keen to strengthen his squad amid the uncertainty surrounding his midfield heading into the new year.
When asked if Beale will be allowed to spend big in January, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I think the bottom line is he will be told he has to get players out first.
“The wages are a big thing. There are players there that are very good players but just did not do it under the last manager for some reason, the likes of Kamara.
“I like Scott Arfield but he is getting bit parts and now Davis is injured.
“He has been bringing young players in and it has not worked a lot of the time. They have got players there that got the to the Europa league final, you can’t get much better than that.“
In other news, Michael Beale has ‘interesting’ new battle at Rangers after what Hutton has heard.
