Florida-bred rapper Saucy Santana has been one of music’s breakout stars during the pandemic. After bursting onto the scene in 2019 with his debut single “Walk ’Em Like a Dog” and future hit “Material Girl,” Santana hit the ground running, releasing five projects in the span of two years. And in the spring of 2022, his hard work as an independent artist paid off in the form a recording contract with RCA.

Now, with everyone back “outside” all summer, Santana is ready to get people dancing. His latest single “Booty,” a collab with Atlanta rapper Latto, is a much-needed homage to all things derrière. The two previously linked up for their 2020 song “Up & Down” and Latto’s song “It’s Givin’” from her 777 album released earlier this year; Santana went on to join Latto on the 777 Tour — his first time on the road.

A snippet of the song went viral when Santana first teased the track on social media. The song’s chorus seemingly samples the triumphant horn line from Beyoncé’s 2003 breakout single “Crazy in Love,” which itself was taken from The Chi-Lites’ 1970 classic “Are You My Woman? (Tell Me So).” But virality is never something that Santana purposely aims for, telling Forbes earlier this year “I have fun on the record and whatever happens happens,” adding, “I love that about me — that it’s so authentic and it’s so pure. I’m not in the studio thinking, ‘I need to make a TikTok hit’; I’m not necessarily thinking, ‘I need to make this go viral.’ I’m just making good music.”

“Booty” is just one of Saucy Santana’s club-ready anthems set for release this summer; he revealed earlier this year that he recorded a “twerk song” with Grammy-winning rapper Lil Nas X.

Santana’s star continues to rise, and he continues to dream even bigger for himself. “Two years from now it’s giving the face of fashion, it’s giving the face of makeup, it’s giving Grammy’s, it’s giving movies,” he told Rolling Stone in March. “The shit that I can do in two more years, I can’t even imagine.”
