Caltrans temporarily closed three lanes of Interstate 80 in Berkeley Friday evening in order to place concrete construction barriers on the freeway to accommodate work repairing damage to the Gilman Street overcrossing.

The three right lanes of eastbound Interstate 80 at Gilman Street closed at 9 p.m. Friday and will reopen at 5 a.m. Saturday. All five lanes of eastbound Interstate 80 will open to traffic at that time.

The temporary concrete barriers will remain in place to accommodate work repairing the damage to the Gilman Street overcrossing, which was hit by an oversized truck Wednesday. The repair work will be completed by September, according to a Caltrans spokesperson.

Overnight lane closures on eastbound Interstate 80 will be needed to perform the repairs.
