Sandown tips: Number one can live up name

Sandown #Sandown

Herald Sun form analyst Brad Waters runs the rule over Wednesday’s card on the Sandown Hillside track.

BEST BET

LOVEPLANET (Race 7 No. 10 – $3.10)

Chris Waller-trained talent that went to the paddock an easy winner and he’s capable of returning a winner at Sandown, especially from barrier two.

NEXT BEST

MYNUMEROUNO (Race 1 No. 3 – $3.40)

Impressed with the way he quickened to score on debut at Swan Hill last month. He’ll be better for that experience and looks capable of measuring up in city grade.

SANTERO (Race 3 No. 7 – $5.50)

Santero has had a little more than a month since a solid second at Moe behind I’m Thunderstruck and the Patrick Payne camp has found the right race for her return. Expect her to be running on hard late.

JUST MALCOLM (Race 8 No. 9 – $6)

Just Malcolm got into an awkward spot back and wide before laying in and costing himself at Sale last Friday. He’s on the quick back-up but expecting a better effort with more pace on over 1000m.

Top jockey Craig Williams will resume from an unscheduled two-week break at Sandown on Wednesday. Picture: AAP.

VALUE BET

ACCORDINGLY (Race 4 No. 11 – $41)

The Nigel Blackiston-trained mare could be a sneaky each-way chance at big odds if she can repeat her last first-up effort. She sustained a long run to score in heavy ground at Ballarat first-up last prep and could bob up at odds at Sandown.

THE JOCKEY

CRAIG WILLIAMS

The champion jockey will be keen to get back among the winners after an unscheduled two-week break. Expect him to come out firing. SEYDOUX (Race 1 No.9 – $11), EL SALTO (Race 2 No.8 – $17), TOOMUCHTOBEAR (Race 4 No.6 – $4.20), WHITE HIBISCUS (Race 5 No.13 – $4.80), SWEET KAROLINA (Race 6 No.14 – $18), ZIAVERA (Race 8 No.11 – $3.70).

THE WEEK AHEAD

Bendigo will host Thursday’s meeting. Geelong will be the scene of Friday’s fixture before Flemington and Moe hold Saturday’s cards. Jumps racing will take centre stage on Sunday with the Mosstrooper Steeple at Pakenham while Echuca also races. Warrnambool will hold a card of flat racing on Monday.
