Fremantle star Andrew Brayshaw and his mate Caleb Serong raced to Monday night’s Sandover Medal count to revel in the success of his brother Hamish.

The East Perth midfielder and former West Coast player charged home to win the medal for the first time, adding to the remarkable legacy of his famous football family.

The Brayshaw brothers met in the foyer after the event, The West Australian capturing heart-warming pictures of the pair embracing.

“Andrew was at Nobu watching and he text Mum and said ‘tune in because he’s a chance to go well,” Hamish said.

“He was very, very proud of me. It was nice, he came running over and text me saying ‘where are you’ and he came across from his dinner at Nobu with Caleb and Lizzie (Andy’s partner) and his partner.

“They came and gave me a big hug and spent the next couple of hours with me, so that was really special.

“I have obviously marvelled at the things that he’s done and his achievements have been well-documented and I’ve been very happy and proud of his success.

“The way that he embraced me and was happy for this made me feel really special. It was nice.”

Hamish also said he had touched base with brother Angus, who last night underwent fresh brain scans as his recovery continues in the wake of a controversial bump by Collingwood’s Brayden Maynard.

It has emerged Maynard visited Brayshaw’s home this week with wine and flowers, but was met by a frosty reception, with a number of Melbourne teammates also visiting at the same time.

The Demons star was pictured at training this morning, even giving a thumbs-up to the camera.

“I was off the phone with him this morning, he is doing OK,” Hamish said.

“He was at the club today, he jogged a couple of laps, so he is feeling a bit better.

“His symptoms have died down, which is really good.”
