Burnley managed to extend their winning run in the Championship to six games on Monday by defeating Swansea City.
As a result of this triumph, the Clarets extended their advantage over nearest rivals Sheffield United in the league standings to five points.
Despite the fact that his side are currently cruising towards an immediate return to the Premier League, Burnley manager Vincent Kompany may be tempted to bolster his squad this month.
One of the individuals who has recently been linked with a move to Turf Moor is Nottingham Forest striker Sam Surridge.
Here, we have decided to take a look at what we know so far about the speculation surrounding Surridge and assess whether a transfer is likely to happen between now and the end of January…
What do we know so far?
A Patreon report from journalist Alan Nixon earlier this week revealed that Burnley are interested in signing Surridge.
It is understood that Forest would be open to the prospect of selling the 24-year-old while a loan deal could also be on the cards.
Surridge has been deployed as a substitute in nine of the 10 Premier League games that he has participated in this season and has yet to score at this level for Forest.
The forward’s most recent appearance for the Reds came during their 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday at the City Ground.
Is a transfer likely to happen?
Whereas Burnley will be confident in their ability to convince Surridge to make the move to Turf Moor, they are now expected to face competition for his signature.
According to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, the Black Cats are hoping to sign Surridge on a temporary deal from Forest this month.
Sunderland are currently on the lookout for a new striker following Everton’s decision to recall Ellis Simms from his loan spell at the Stadium of Light.
In order to have the best chance of winning the race for Surridge, Burnley may need to offer the forward some assurances regarding game-time.
Whereas the Clarets are currently able to turn to Jay Rodriguez and Ashley Barnes for inspiration, swooping for Surridge could turn out to be a wise move.
The forward provided nine direct goal contributions for Forest in the second-half of the previous campaign after sealing a switch to the City Ground from Stoke City.
With Surridge in their side, the Reds secured promotion to the top-flight via the play-offs last year.
