The first head-to-head 3-Point Contest showdown between Sabrina Ionescu and Stephen Curry has yet to happen, but they are already talking about running it back in 2025.
Speaking to reporters ahead of Saturday’s event, Ionescu said the loser of tonight’s matchup is going to want a rematch during next year’s All-Star festivities at Chase Center.
The NBA put together the shooting contest between the NBA and WNBA superstars after Curry issued a challenge during warmups before a Jan. 25 game against the Sacramento Kings.
Ionescu set a contest record—NBA or WNBA—in 2023 when she scored 37 out of a possible 40 points in the final round of the WNBA 3-Point Contest. The previous single-round record was 31 points done by two different NBA players, including Curry in 2021 and Tyrese Haliburton in 2023.
The Curry vs. Ionescu 3-Point Contest will be a separate event from the original event on Saturday night. It will be one 70-second round to shoot 27 shots, with one of the five racks featuring all money balls worth two points. There will also be two Starry range spots on the court that are 29 feet, nine inches away from the basket that will count for three points.
Curry, as long as he is healthy, figures to be the most featured star at the 2025 All-Star Game because it’s at his home arena. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him take part in another shooting contest against Ionescu, who is from the Bay Area.
