Saab and Turbo hit top gear as Sea Eagles cruise Rout 66
Saab #Saab
Tom Trbojevic and Jason Saab scored hat-tricks and Reuben Garrick equalled Manly’s record for the most points in a match as the Sea Eagles romped to the biggest win in the club’s history with a 66-0 defeat of Canterbury at Bankwest Stadium.
Trbojevic grabbed first half tries, while Saab scored the last three of the match and Garrick finished with 30 points from 11 goals and two tries. That equalled the records of Ron Rowles (1954) and Matthew Ridge (1996) as Manly eclipsed their 70-7 defeat of Penrith in 1973 as their biggest club win.
The victory was the second biggest of the NRL era after Parramatta’s 70-0 triumph against Cronulla in 2003 and the sixth biggest in premiership history, while Canterbury’s loss was their worst since 1935.
With the Sea Eagles leading 36-0 at halftime, and having two tries disallowed, commentators and officials were searching through the records books at the break to check the most tries and points in a match by a Manly player as well as their biggest win over Canterbury.
After overcoming a 24-8 halftime deficit in their last game against Gold Coast to win 56-24, Manly picked up where they left off to pile on six unanswered tries in the opening 40 minutes against the hapless Bulldogs.
Trbojevic put Garrick for the first try in just the sixth minute following back-to-back penalties and the superstar fullback scored himself nine minutes later after Cherry-Evans combined with centre Morgan Harper and Saab.
After a disallowed try to Lachlan Croker, interchange forward Toafofoa Sipley got the scoreboard clicking over again when he scored his first NRL try in the 25th minute after Cherry-Evans stepped infield and linked with Croker.
Manly scored almost at will in the next 10 minutes as Trbojevic crossed in the 27th and 29th minutes before Sipley got his second try in the 34th minute to extend the Sea Eagles lead to 36-0.
One incident that summed up the difference between the two teams was when Bulldogs debutant Falakiko Manu threw a loose pass near the Sea Eagles line and despite Canterbury players being closest to the ball Cherry-Evans dived on it first.

Saab unleashed and Turbo looms up inside to score
Karl Lawton, who had a try disallowed in the first half, was finally rewarded in the 51st minute and the floodgates opened again after Will Hopoate was sin binned for holding back Trbojevic as he appeared set to score his fourth try.
Garrick scored in the 59th minute before Saab grabbed three consecutive tries in the 65th, 70th and 75th minutes as Manly surpassed their biggest winning margin.
Trbojevic ended up running for 208 metres but was surpassed by Saab with 283.
