Rylan reveals that a bat flew into his home

Rylan Clark has revealed his ‘risky’ new career move – after admitting being married held him back.

The TV and radio presenter split from husband of six years Dan Neal in 2021 after Rylan delivered the shock news he had been unfaithful to him years before. As his marriage crumbled and he feared he had lost everything, he even tried to take his own life as he felt like he “couldn’t carry on”.

But fast forward three years and 35-year-old Rylan is back in a good place and no longer wants to play it safe when it comes to work. After shooting to fame as a contestant on The X Factor, he went on to win Celebrity Big Brother and then host Big Brother’s Bit On The Side.

He’s a regular stand in on This Morning and most recently co-hosted Strictly spin-off It Takes Two and his popular Radio 2 show, both of which he quit last year. Now Rylan is back with a new reality show on Amazon Prime that’s set to be wilder than Geordie Shore.

Hot Mess Summer will follow eight young Brits who arrive in Zante thinking they are going to be filmed partying for the next couple of months – but instead they must run one of the Greek island’s busiest bars.

Speaking about the new show, Rylan told Metro: “Hot Mess Summer is something I wouldn’t have done four or five years ago, just because I wouldn’t want to be away from home for a month, but now I’m Mr Single I can do what I want. I’m finally in control of my life. I was Mr Safe, but now I’m Mr Risky.

“I’ve been really lucky to host a load of shows and over the past two years I have just wanted to try something new. It’s like old telly – the shows I loved growing up. Now people are a little bit frightened to take risks – not necessarily the channels but maybe production and contestants. I don’t want to see people wrapped in cotton wool.”

Earlier this week, Rylan appeared to make another savage dig at his ex as he co-hosted an episode of ITV’s This Morning alongside Rochelle Humes. During a segment about a £1 ring, Rylan seemingly made a jibe about his split from former husband Dan.

When the guest got down on one knee to propose to Rylan with the bargain ring, Rylan said he knew what he was going to be asked before quipping: “Not again without a pre-nup.” However, the man instead asked him how much the ring was, leaving an awkward moment as Rylan made the quip about his love life.

Rylan previously admitted that the aftermath of his divorce hit him like a “baseball bat around the face”. Opening up on his split, he shared: “I am so, so strong but I was so broken, to the point where I physically couldn’t dress, I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t do none of these things. I would pray that I wouldn’t wake up because then it wouldn’t be my fault.

“Every morning I’d wake up and there’s that three seconds of forgetfulness where you think it’s a dream, or you don’t think it’s real, and then you remember, and that’s it for the rest of the day. In a weird way, I can look back at everything and be grateful for what I went through, because I would never let myself get like that again. I know that.”
