England may not be bringing the Women’s World Cup trophy home but there’s one person keeping our spirits high – and her name is Mary Earps.
The goalie was undoubtedly the star of the show as the Lionesses took on Spain in a nail-biting final in Australia this weekend, and many stars heaped their admiration upon her.
Alas, it wasn’t meant to be, as England were defeated 1-0 after a dramatic showdown that involved literal bloodshed from Alex Greenwood and some frustrating rulings from the referee.
However, goalkeeper Earps (whose shirt Nike declined to sell to fans ahead of the tournament) has given us memes for days with her mighty performance, most notably her epic save of Spain’s free kick.
The Manchester United star, 30, had footie fans screaming at their TV screens as she leapt to grab the ball – and her reaction after succeeding was priceless.
In a moment of madness, the player was repeatedly seen telling the opposing team to ‘f**k off’ as she attempted to clear her lines and push England back up the field.

It was a sight to behold, with Earps proving exactly why she’s known as Mary Queen of Stops.
Despite England’s loss, Earps gave a strong performance throughout the final to the point where her name shot up the trending list on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Singing her praises, the likes of Dan Walker and Greg James, who couldn’t help but tweet the video of her explicit reaction.
‘LOVE MARY EARPS,’ Walker had proudly shared in reaction to her impeccable save, alongside a heart emoji, and when it was all over for the team, he returned with further praise.

‘Gutted for the @Lionesses but Spain were worthy winners,’ he wrote.

‘Whatever the result – this team are gamechangers and we could all do with a little more Mary Earps in our lives.’
‘MARY F**KING EARPS,’ presenter Rylan Clark screamed (we imagine), finishing off with no fewer than 20 clapping emoji.
Meanwhile, former T4 star and current BBC 5 Live host Rick Edwards proclaimed: ‘F**k it, I’m making my own Mary Earps shirt!’
It might have been a team loss, but Earps was still awarded for her stellar work with the Golden Glove (Picture: EPA)
Singer-songwriter Kate Nash also clearly received a big boost of adrenaline from Earps’ performance too, tweeting: ‘MARY QUEEN OF STOPS!!! COME ON ENGLAND.’
Despite the heartbreak for England, Earps’ towering performance throughout the competition was recognised as she was presented with the Golden Glove award.
