Ryan Giggs trial latest: Sir Alex Ferguson gives evidence in court – as Giggs’ ex lists names of women ‘he cheated with’, including cricketer’s wife

Sir Alex Ferguson tells the court Ryan Giggs entered the Manchester United first team when he was 17.

He says Giggs began attracting attention after “the press, the media started comparing him with George Best”.

“We had to face a lot of media attention on the boy,” he says.

Sir Alex says he told Giggs’s mother: “I’ll look after him.”

“We did have to protect him,” he adds.

Asked if Giggs had a number of girlfriends, Sir Alex says “when he was older” and says he would bring them to end-of-season events.

Sir Alex says: “When I lost my temper about a performance, I would use Ryan as an example.

“He would get the sharp end of my tongue.

“I knew he could take it.”

He says Giggs has a “fantastic temperament”.

“He was without doubt the best example I had at the club,” Sir Alex adds. 

Asked whether he had ever seen Giggs lose his temper, Sir Alex replied: No.”
