Ryan Fitzpatrick calls Jared Goff a ‘poor man’s’ QB and Lion fires back with blowout of Packers

Jared Goff heard the put down and turned it into inspiration.
No one would argue that Goff is a rich man’s version of Patrick Mahomes.

But a poor man’s version of Matt Ryan?
Ouch.
That’s a little harsh, and Goff let Ryan Fitzpatrick – who might have been a poor man’s version of Kirk Cousins – hear it after the Detroit Lions embarrassed the Green Bay Packers inside a blue-drenched Lambeau Field on Thursday Night Football
“I hope it was up to your standards,” Goff told Fitzpatrick, after throwing for 210 yards and a touchdown during the Lions’ 34-20 win.
“I didn’t know I was a poor man’s anything,” Goff said. “I heard about that.”
As the TV crew broke into laughter and enjoyed the light-hearted confrontation, Goff kept sticking up for himself and Detroit as well as Ryan.
“Matt Ryan’s a helluva player,” Goff said.
Fitzpatrick was good but never great in the NFL.

The TNF broke into laughter after Jared Goff called out General Fitzpatrick
He played for nine teams during a journeyman 17-year career that finished with 34,990 passing yards, 223 TDs, 169 interceptions and an upside-down record (59-87-1) as a starter.
In many ways, Fitzpatrick was a better story – an easy player to follow and root for – than a playoff-worthy NFL QB.
His warm personality has carried over into his TV broadcast career, though, as Fitzpatrick has embraced his new role and hasn’t been afraid to challenge norms.
On the playing field, Fitzpatrick never made a Pro Bowl. And there’s a reason that he bounced from team to team to team after being a seventh-round pick out of Harvard in 2005.
Goff has been selected to three Pro Bowls, helped lead the Los Angeles Rams to the Super Bowl, and produced a 13-3 season in 2018.
During his eight-year career, Goff has completed 64.4 percent of his passes for 26,673 yards, 160 TDs and just 72 interceptions. And he has a 56-46-1 record as a starter.
Not to mention that Ryan was a very good NFL quarterback, also led the Atlanta Falcons to the Super Bowl, and was the NFL MVP in 2016.
No wonder that Goff took exception to Fitzpatrick’s cutting words, which had an element of truth but also blurred lines, since it wasn’t that long ago that Fitzpatrick was going 2-5 leading Tampa Bay and 5-8 guiding Miami.
On Sunday, talkSPORT 2 will bring you extensive coverage of the Atlanta Falcons vs the Jacksonville Jaguars from Wembley, followed by 11 straight hours of gridiron action live from 6pm.
