Russia to provide COVID-19 vaccine to Sri Lanka

Russia’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka Yury Materiy has promised Minister of Irrigation and State Minister of Internal Defense, Home Affairs and Disaster Management Chamal Rajapaksa to provide the COVID-19 vaccine developed by his country to Sri Lanka.

This was stated by the Russian Ambassador when he met Minister Rajapaksa at the ministry premises recently.

The Ambassador said the Russian Government hopes to distribute the “Sputnik” vaccine developed by the Russian Government against the COVID-19 to several countries, including Sri Lanka.

Following a request by Minister Rajapaksa the Ambassador had also agreed to provide the Sri Lanka Police Department with advanced online courses on new international technology investigation methods produced by his country.

Minister Chamal Rajapaksa while recalling the longstanding friendly ties between the two countries thanked the Russian Ambassador for the assistance provided to Sri Lanka on numerous fronts.
