Russia attacks scenic Drohobych in Lviv Obast, over 1,200 km from the frontline

A Russian missile slammed into picturesque Drohobych, 75 km south of Lviv, destroying an industrial facility and igniting a massive fire, Lviv Military Administration head Maxym Kozytsky reported on Feb. 7.

Drohobych is over 1,200 km from the frontline.

The blaze damaged more than 500 square meters of the facility’s roof and a garbage truck. It was extinguished by 9:30 a.m. and no casualties have been reported, the State Emergency Service said.

The missile had traveled to within 50 km of NATO territory, forcing Poland to scramble its fighter jets, before turning 180 degrees and heading toward Drohobych.

Ukrainian Air Defense Forces also shot down one missile in the Stryi district of Lviv Oblast. There are no casualties, according to early reports.

Russia launched several missile attacks on Ukraine after a night drone attack on Feb. 7. In addition to Drohobych, Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Mykolaiv also suffered hits from Russian strikes.

Around 20 missiles were intercepted over Kyiv and the city. There are reports of 11 casualties, including one pregnant woman.
