Russell Wilson offers his thoughts on who the NBA MVP should be
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson knows a thing or two about being in the MVP discussion. While hasn’t won one yet, he has come close on many occasions.
And on Twitter this week, Wilson offered his thoughts about one of the most closely contested MVP races in NBA history.
Who is Wilson’s choice for MVP? Right now, he would roll with Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry.
This may elicit some rage from fans of the Portland Trail Blazers and guard Damian Lillard, who has been one of the MVP frontrunners throughout the season. That said, it’s understandable why Wilson would be backing Curry.
In recent weeks, Curry has been absolutely on fire for the Warriors. In his last 11 games, Curry is averaging a ridiculous 40 points per game to go along with 6.1 rebounds and 4.5 assists. He has helped the Warriors achieve a 7-4 record in that span and has provided a massive chunk of the team’s offense.
Wilson’s tweet came shortly after the Warriors beat the Philadelphia 76ers in a key contest that saw Curry drop 49 points on 10 of 17 shooting from beyond the arc. Needless to say, that’s an extremely impressive performance, especially considering that Curry is shooting a whopping 49.7 percent from 3 during his 11-game hot streak.
Ultimately, the MVP is still up for grabs and Curry will certainly be in the running for it thanks to his play of late. With Lillard reportedly returning from a hamstring injury on Wednesday, he’ll have to put up some big numbers to set his MVP stock ablaze again.
So far this season, Lillard has averaged 28.7 points, 7.7 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game.
