Russell Brand has upset fans with his latest video discussing whether Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s WAP video is a ‘feminist masterpiece or porn’.

The comedian and actor, 45, shared his opinion on the music video in his latest YouTube discussion, but fans were not happy with what he had to say.

He admitted he was ‘spellbound by the potency’ of the ‘power of female sensuality and sexuality’ in the video, but added that he wasn’t sure if it was progressing equality between men and women.

Russell said: ‘From a political perspective, I don’t know that that demonstrates progress because gender and sex aside, what are the values that we are collectively aspiring to?

‘Objectification of the other, objectification of the self, is objectification something that we’re aspiring to sexuality and sensuality as commodity?’

He later added: ‘I think that in a sense we are not ambitious enough about what we are aspiring to culturally.

‘I wouldn’t be so reductive and simplistic to say that women celebrating their bodies using an aesthetic that’s conventionally been associated with the male gaze means it’s impossible that these tools could be used as a vehicle for liberation.

‘But I am saying that in a sense it’s still the same metric, it’s still the same aesthetic, it’s still the same values, it’s still the same ideals.

‘It’s still ultimately a sort of capitalist objectification and commodification of, in this case, the female.

‘I’m not suggesting that they aren’t powerful auteurs and powerful creators, I;m saying that we ought to be aspiring to an entirely different set of values, not who has the power within an established set of values.’

Fans took to Twitter to voice their opinions on the 17-minute video, tweeting: ‘Opening twitter to discover Russell Brand is mansplaining feminism, ENOUGH INTERNET FOR ME’.

Others added: ‘Congratulations to Russell Brand for mansplaining to women how they should enjoy WAP & their own sexuality’ and ‘#russellbrand’s surfaced.. mate nobody asked’.

Another wrote: ‘So Russell Brand is preaching about feminism when he’s made a career out of shagging multiple women and is also known for “prank phone calling” Andrew Sachs, where he bragged about having sex with his granddaughter?’

Others defended his right to voice his opinion, adding: ‘What’s the hoohaa with #RussellBrand? He’s just sharing his views on his #YouTube channel in the same way that we are, on Twitter. #storminateacup For the record, I didn’t care for the #WAP song or the video. See that? An opinion. An unsolicited opinion. Shrugs. #democracy’
