RUMOR: The $160 million reason Andrew Wiggins trade might be unavoidable for Warriors

After struggling to maintain competitiveness through injuries and Kevin Durant’s departure, the Golden State Warriors find themselves back in the mix for the NBA Finals. Even though the organization is fighting for another title right now, many are speculating about Golden State’s maneuvers for the upcoming offseason. For that reason, it sounds like a decision will have to be made regarding Andrew Wiggins.

According to Connor Letourneau, it will be unlikely the Warriors retain their rotational players in the offseason. Wiggins doesn’t become a free agent until 2023 and will likely receive a hefty contract by that time. For Golden State, trading the small forward soon would allow the front office the wiggle room necessary to maintain a championship-level roster.

For the Warriors, the front office must get creative considering the salary cap is borderline out of hand. However, trading Andrew Wiggins would solve a lot of problems, per the San Francisco Chronicle. “Even though Golden State is worth an estimated $5.6 billion, majority owner Joe Lacob is bound to reach his breaking point soon. Unloading Wiggins’ contract before he hits free agency in summer 2023 seems like the most palatable option. Given that he is fresh off an All-Star-starter selection, he should bring back a decent trade package.”

Considering there are numerous rumors of the Warriors being interested in acquiring Rudy Gobert, perhaps Andrew Wiggins can be offered to the Utah Jazz in a unique trade package. Keep an eye on this organization, as the front office could make a big move while Stephen Curry is still in his prime.
