Rudy Giuliani denies being an alcoholic as prosecutors probe whether ex-mayor was hitting bottle while advising Trump

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani protested Wednesday that “I’m not an alcoholic” when asked about claims that he’s been hitting the bottle hard — even while providing legal advice to former President Donald Trump.

“I’m not an alcoholic. I never have been — not even close,” Giuliani told The Post in response to a New York Times report that federal prosecutors are probing his drinking habits as part of their case against Trump, 77, over his attempt to remain in power following his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden.

Special counsel Jack Smith reportedly has questioned witnesses about Giuliani’s boozing while he was advising Trump to try to block Biden from being certified as the winner, and whether that undermines the ex-president’s defense that he relied on the advice of counsel while arguing that massive voter fraud robbed him of a second term.

But Giuliani, 79, argued that he’s not a boozer and raged against former City Council President Andrew Stein, who claimed to the Times that the ex-mayor has a drinking problem.

“Andrew Stein said I have a drinking problem? Andrew Stein is a big liar!,” the 2008 Republican presidential candidate said.

“By the way, Andrew Stein is not a smart guy,” Giuliani added.

“What has Andrew Stein accomplished?”

Asked why people in the Trump orbit and New York political circles would say he has a drinking problem,  Giuliani answered: “I have a lot of friends who became enemies.”

“I must be the most accomplished alcoholic ever given what I accomplished,” he added, rattling off his resume both as mayor and a former federal prosecutor.

“I should be in the Guinness Book of World Records. It’s a complete, absolute lie.”

Giuliani even declined to describe himself as a social drinker, arguing that would only lend credence to the allegations.

The former mayor’s alcohol consumption has been a source of debate since the 2020 election and surfaced during a House select committee investigation of the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the US Capitol.

“The mayor was definitely intoxicated, but I do not know his level of intoxication when he spoke with the president, for example,” Trump campaign strategist Jason Miller testified, referring to Giuliani’s condition on election night, when he urged Trump to publicly declare victory despite the race being too close to call and results trending toward the Democrat.

Giuliani disputed that he was drunk on election night, claiming he was only drinking “Diet Coke.”

Meanwhile, Giuliani filed a lawsuit Wednesday against Biden in a New Hampshire court, accusing the commander-in-chief of defamation during the second and final 2020 presidential debate.

“I’m suing Joe Biden. Twice during the presidential debate he called me a Russian pawn,” the former mayor said.

A check of the debate transcript reveals that Biden assailed Giuliani during a discussion of The Post’s bombshell reporting on Hunter Biden’s foreign business interests.

“His buddy Rudy Giuliani, he’s being used as a Russian pawn,” Biden said of Trump at the time.

“He’s being fed information that is Russian, that is not true.”

Giuliani is also one of 19 co-defendants, along with Trump, in a Georgia election fraud case that accuses them of a “vast racketeering enterprise” with the goal of subverting the Peach State results of the 2020 vote.
