ROY KEANE named his all-time Manchester United Premier League XI… with no room for Paul Scholes or Rio Ferdinand.

The Irishman appeared on Sky Sports on Monday night to run the rule over the Red Devils in their 3-0 win over Brentford.

After the game, the panel decided to have some fun by getting Keane to select a star-studded Man Utd side.

The 50-year-old started by selecting Peter Schmeichel ahead of David de Gea and Edwin van der Sar in goal, despite saying he “wasn’t as good” as everyone thought.

He then went with Gary Neville at right-back, calling him a “very good team-mate” and a “top professional”.

Keane’s compatriot Denis Irwin made it in at left-back after being praised as a “brilliant character”.

Picking centre-backs was Keane’s hardest task, but he settled on Jaap Stam and Gary Pallister with the latter just edging Rio Ferdinand.

Keane’s midfield also had a strong 1990s feel, with Bryan Robson and Paul Ince making the cut ahead of Class of 92 legend Paul Scholes.

Ince was described as a “brilliant player” that Keane would choose to have “in the trenches” with him.

Keano then recounted Robson as having great “courage”.

Class of 92 pair Ryan Giggs and David Beckham were selected on the flanks, with Keane hailing both as “consistent”.

Keane also waxed lyrical over the way Becks used to train, speaking of the “shift” he always put in.

He then finished off his team by selecting Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney upfront – having played with both during their days as teenage superstars.

There was no space for French legend Eric Cantona up top or the prolific Ruud van Nistelrooy.
