Roy Keane joked Manchester City star Phil Foden “needs drug tested” after the youngster claimed Micah Richards was a world-class player.
The Manchester United legend was effusive in his praise of the 20-year-old but couldn’t resist a dig at his Sky Sports colleague Richards.
An insightful interview with Foden formed part of the build-up for City’s clash with Liverpool on Sunday.
The playmaker named former City right-back Richards as one of the top players of his time.
The claim didn’t escape Keane as he delivered a typically cutting putdown to Richards, who was left in fits of laughter.
Keane said: “The important thing for Foden, like any young player, is to play regularly.
“He’s had or two opportunities over the past year or two. (David) Silva has now left but it’s unfair to compare him to Silva because he’s one of the greatest players we’ve ever seen in the Premier League.

“The key for him now, he’s got all the talent, can he do it week in week out? He’s made one or two mistakes.
“He’s a talented kid.
“Consistency. Can he do it week in week out?
“His interview, he came across really well. Obviously, the stuff about Micah, he probably needs to be drug tested for that.
“What came across in the interview is he wants to learn. He’s 20 years of age, a kid.
“Playing week in week out can only help him, he’s working under Pep Guardiola, one of the world’s greatest coaches.”
